What to know before travelling to Uganda

Use the section that matches your travel purpose and passport context.

01

Tourist & Leisure

Visitor requirements

Kenya is included in Uganda Immigration’s visa-exempt country list, so Kenyan nationals do not require an entry visa under that arrangement. Entry conditions and the permitted stay must still be checked for the traveller and recorded by Immigration. The detailed ordinary-passport entry checklist for this record remains under review.

Passport & documents

The Special Pass application specifies at least six months of passport validity. The ordinary Kenyan visitor’s entry-document requirements and alternative EAC travel-document options still need separate confirmation; do not apply the Special Pass checklist automatically to every tourist.

02

Business Travel

Business requirements

Uganda provides a Special Pass for purposes including short contracts and exploring business opportunities. The published checklist distinguishes sponsored and individual applications, requiring identity, purpose, duration and current-status evidence. A company application includes a contract and covering letter. Confirm whether this route applies to your Kenyan-passport trip and exact activity; the relevant permission and any fee treatment remain unresolved here.

03

Passport Context

Kenyan passport holders

Kenyan nationals are visa-exempt according to Uganda Immigration. This exemption does not itself establish permission to undertake paid work or a particular business assignment.

Kenyan residents using other passports

This review concerns Kenyan ordinary passports. Kenyan residents travelling on another passport must check the rules for their nationality, residence and purpose separately.

Application Route

How and where to apply

Exempt Kenyan visitors should confirm current border-entry requirements with Uganda Immigration. If Immigration directs you to a Special Pass, apply through the official Immigration portal linked from its Special Pass page. Do not buy a generic tourist visa merely because the portal offers it.

Embassy / mission

Uganda Immigration: use the official department website for current contacts and traveller-specific guidance.

Processing guidance

No advance entry-visa application is required under the Kenyan exemption. The reviewed Special Pass page does not give a guaranteed decision period; confirm lead time with Immigration for the chosen permission.

Important Visa Information

Visa and entry requirements may change. Sunward Travel will confirm the applicable requirements at the time of travel. The issuance of a visa or permission to enter is the sole prerogative of the issuing country's immigration/consular authorities, and Sunward Travel does not guarantee a successful visa application or entry for any applicant or nationality.
