What to know before travelling to Thailand

Use the section that matches your travel purpose and passport context.

01

Tourist & Leisure

Visitor requirements

The tourist application requires a passport biodata page, recent photograph, evidence of occupation and current location, round-trip flight reservation and accommodation covering the stay. For a single-entry application, the Nairobi embassy requests a current, bank-certified statement covering three months with at least THB 20,000 per person or equivalent. Host stays, sponsored travellers and minors have additional evidence requirements: use the complete embassy checklist. Complete the separate Thailand Digital Arrival Card before entry; it is not a visa. The Immigration FAQ specifies submission within the three days before arrival, including the arrival date. Complete its health declaration and retain the confirmation.

Passport & documents

The Royal Thai Embassy in Nairobi requires a passport valid for at least six months. Confirm that the visa matches your purpose and follow the embassy’s document instructions for your circumstances.

02

Business Travel

Business requirements

The Nairobi embassy assigns business visits and private-company meetings to Non-Immigrant B. Its checklist includes an employer letter or self-employment financial evidence, a Thai company invitation and corporate documents, alongside identity, current-location and financial evidence. Conferences, government meetings and supported MICE events may follow different categories; ask the embassy to classify the actual event. Employment has additional requirements.

03

Passport Context

Kenyan passport holders

Kenya is absent from the ordinary-passport exemption and visa-on-arrival lists in the embassy’s chart effective 15 September 2026. Kenyan ordinary-passport tourists should obtain an appropriate visa before departure through Thai e-Visa. Different passport types or travel purposes require their own assessment.

Kenyan residents using other passports

The stated review scope concerns Kenyan ordinary passports. Kenyan residents travelling on another passport must check rules for that nationality, residence and purpose separately.

04

Application Route

How and where to apply

Apply through the official Thai e-Visa website. The Nairobi embassy no longer accepts physical visa applications. Follow both the portal’s requirements and the embassy’s local checklist; download the approved confirmation for travel.

Processing guidance

The Nairobi embassy states at least 15 working days after submission, successful payment and completion of requirements. It recommends applying at least one month before departure, but no more than three months ahead. Additional documents, interviews and public holidays can extend the process.
