Entry GuidanceWhat to know before travelling to Rwanda
Use the section that matches your travel purpose and passport context.
01Tourist & Leisure
Visitor requirements
Kenyan citizens qualify for the free EAC visitor entry arrangement on arrival. Immigration can request evidence of sufficient funds. Check current health-entry requirements separately and observe the stay recorded at the border.
Passport & documentsThe published visitor-pass requirements specify a recognised travel document valid for at least six months. This review covers ordinary passports; confirm alternative regional travel documents separately.
02Business Travel
Business requirements
DGIE distinguishes conferences, meetings and workshops (V5) from exploring investment or trading opportunities (V6). These categories do not authorise work. Explain your purpose and Kenyan nationality to DGIE before choosing a category; the EAC entry arrangement does not settle every activity-specific permission.
03Passport Context
Kenyan passport holders
The EAC visitor pass is issued at the border without a fee, for a single entry and a stay of up to six months. It does not permit employment.
Kenyan residents using other passportsThis review concerns Kenyan ordinary passports. Kenyan residents travelling on another passport must check the rules for their nationality, residence and purpose separately.
04Application Route
How and where to apply
Kenyan leisure visitors use the EAC arrival arrangement. For a category-specific application, follow DGIE instructions and the official IremboGov service. V5 may be issued on arrival, online or through a mission; V6 is handled through DGIE or a mission. Seek classification advice before applying if your activity is unclear.
Embassy / missionUse Rwanda Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration for category-specific advice, through the contacts on its official website.
Processing guidanceThe EAC arrival arrangement has no advance visa-processing period. IremboGov lists four days for its online visa service; allow for additional checks and do not treat this as a guaranteed decision deadline.
