Flight preparation starts with understanding the ticket you are buying. A familiar destination name is not enough: airports, dates, connections, baggage and fare conditions all affect the arrangements you will need.
Read the complete itinerary
Review the departure and arrival airports, dates and local times for every leg. Check whether a connection involves a different airport or a separate booking. Tell your consultant about the commitment you must reach at the destination so that proposed flight options can be considered alongside onward travel and accommodation.
Check your actual baggage allowance
IATA notes that cabin baggage can vary with the airline, cabin class and aircraft, while checked baggage rules also vary by airline and route. Read the allowance attached to your fare instead of relying on a previous trip. Ask about equipment, an additional bag or items with special handling before arriving at the airport.
Prepare documents for the whole route
Check the destination and any transit requirements for your passport, residence and purpose of travel. Review the passenger details on the reservation against your travel document. If something is wrong, contact the booking team promptly rather than assuming it can be changed without conditions. Requirements must be checked again if the route changes.
Arrange the airport legs
Decide how you will reach the departure airport and leave the arrival airport. If arranging a pickup, supply the flight number, arrival date, passenger count and luggage needs. Confirm the meeting point and contact details. Airline assistance and airport support have their own arrangements; ask what can be provided rather than assuming it is part of a transfer.
Know what happens if plans change
Read the quoted fare conditions and keep the booking reference accessible. Ask your consultant which changes the fare permits and which charges or restrictions apply. Check the airline's instructions for check-in and boarding. When requesting a flight quote, include your date flexibility so that suitable alternatives can be considered from the start.
